ABOUT ROBERT LOVE
Robert Love is unique because he communicates and relates equally well to individual youth as he does with governing boards. He exudes confidence, compassion, and trustworthiness. The number of programs that he has created, the accolades that he has received in both the education and the entertainment world, and the thousands of students he has nurtured are testimony to his decades of giving and serving. The list of his associations includes but is not limited to: Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, YMCA Outreach, Communities in Schools, and City of Wichita Parks and Recreation. As the Communities in Schools coordinator at Alcott Burger King Academy, in 1993, he was recognized on a national level as Project Coordinator of the Year.
Robert practiced "best practices" before they were widely acknowledged, accepted, and adapted. For example, he was responsible for providing wrap-around services at Lincoln Elementary in the late 1980s. His unique gift to collaborate with others resulted in tutoring for elementary students, GED preparation for parents, trips to the YMCA, and a free dinner to participants. Robert "looped" (stayed with a group of students for several consecutive years) before it was popular to do so.
What did he do? He paid for high school credit recovery classes at Learning Centers, gave rides to home, school, and work; frequently made home visits, gave basketball lessons, and acknowledged students regardless of their past choices. He had a positive impact on those who crossed his path because he has the innate knowledge what to do, or say, or provide. Mr. Love is the consummate educator, a true teacher, who has served in Wichita comprehensive high schools, alternative programs, elementary and middle schools. He tenaciously insists that the people he helps not only succeed but soar. Since 1980, he has helped place over 20 athletes in colleges and receive scholarships, many resulting in degrees.
Now "retired," Mr. Love continues providing basketball lessons and advocating for past students. The second of 17 children, Robert Love remains embedded in both the educational and entertainment world. He manages the "Rudy Love and the Love Family Band." This includes attending film festivals and accepting awards for "This is Love," a documentary film about his brother Rudy's musical journey. The documentary flourished on the international film festival circuit and won top awards in London and Rome.
Robert Love and his wife, Pat, have 5 adult children.
Mr. Love's greatest joys and gratitude come from seeing former students succeed, whether it be in the military, or as a business owner, or following their dreams.
